I just realised I haven’t yet put a picture of my bike in the new race setup online, and in the Uster race pics it was only half visible. So here it is! Aerobars, seat post, HED wheels.
I cleaned it in the meantime, by the way. Yuck.

Slooooowly, the race configuration for my bike takes shape. I got the cassette for the race wheels! Now I just have to find somebody who has that “special tool” required to mount it…

I recently got clip-on aerobars and a new seatpost for my bike to make it more triathlon-ish. Apart from a little pain in the shoulders due to the new position, I’m very happy with it. Looking forward to the next race!

Popped my road bike crash cherry yesterday. It’s every bit as good as I hoped it would be.

See that little triangle in the top left corner? That stands for “multisports workout”.
I think at least 30% of the joy in my trainings comes from discovering functions on my watch that I knew were there but never tried until now. Multisports workouts are awesome, especially if you’re very lazy: “Start biking.” “Transition.” “Start running.” Just do what the watch tells you!
I did a short brick today, will swim a bit tomorrow and do an easy spin on Saturday. And then see how it works out on Sunday!

Ooooh, just stumbled upon another Ironman gem. Faris Al-Sultan is very happy about something. Might it be that motivating sound?

Then again, it’s hard to judge from just two seconds of footage. But it seems that he went on to win (Kona 2005)!

Courtney Atkinson mounted a video cam on his bike for the Mooloolaba ITU World Cup race. Rather intense!

Check out Swiss Sven Riederer in the end ;)

Atkinson went on to finish 6th, Riederer came in 7th, and Swiss Ruedi Wild finished 4th.

When I did my first triathlon last year, I blundered on the bike and took a little shortcut. I’ll do my next triathlon next month, and since it’s taking place just a few kilometres from where I live, I thought I’ll have a look at the bike course.
So I went yesterday and did three laps on the course. I was even a nerd about it and sent the GPS track of it to the organisers, and they put a link to it on the race website with a “thanks, Benjamin”. Ha!
Anyway, it feels good to know the course of a race you’re going to do. Research also suggests that it improves your performance during the race if you know the course (reference: in a post to come).
One step closer to a non-DNF/DSQ finish!

Our neighbour keeps piling up beautiful bikes in the staircase. I can’t wait for spring when he’ll assemble one for me!
