Good news for coffee drinkers: in a study, the performance in a 60 minutes cycling time trial was compared between two groups, one of which had undergone caffeine withdrawal for a few days, while the other hadn’t. Just before the time trial, half of each group was given caffeine, the other half a placebo, resulting in four groups (withdrawal/caffeine, withdrawal/placebo, no withdrawal/caffeine, no withdrawal/placebo).
The awesome result: the effect of the caffeine was about the same, independent of whether people had undergone a withdrawal or not.
I’ll keep not stopping to drink coffee before races then, thank you.
